GUESTS WITH DOGS

The Lake District is a fantastic place to visit with dogs, and Running Hare is proving popular with dog owners, especially with such easy access to Queen’s Park from the back door. Running Hare’s owners, Bruce and Danielle, are (whisper) cat owners, but we hope we make good dog hosts too. Here’s how we try to help guests with pooches have a lovely time.

The house is kept very clean, and non-dog visitors are more than happy too.

This is Danielle with a friend's visiting dog, Trixie. We took her for a walk up Brant Fell, on her lead.
I was amused that some sheep came over to say hello to her.

1. Bowls  There’s a couple of metal bowls for your dogs to use; usually in the cupboard in the utility room.
Please feed dogs here or in the kitchen.

2. Poo Bags You’ll find a set of earth-friendly biodegradable poo bags in a little bone-shaped keyring for your use during your stay hung up in the utility room– please leave the plastic keyring for us to refill for the next guests.

3.  Keeping clean There’s a handy tap at the front of the house.

4. Walks with Dogs  We hope you enjoy the two walks  books we offer on walks with dogs in the Lake District. Nice walks without dogs too of course. The National Trust offers advice on walks with dogs in the Lake District.

7. Please keep your dogs downstairs for the sake of other non-doggy guests. This is easy with the hall door kept shut.  The house is let to people who have may pet allergies so it’s important that carpeted areas are kept fur/hair free. Feel free to use the hoover, in the cupboard under the stairs; the cleaner will also sweep and hoover. Please clear up if the dogs use the garden, and in the park opposite.
Please do not leave your dog alone in the house when you go out.

8. Pet-etiquette. You probably know more than us about keeping your dog safe and being respectful of the environment and other animals. Please remember that some walks may be across private farmland and it’s important not to disturb or upset livestock, so dogs should be kept on leads around sheep, cattle or deer, however well you think your dog behaves.

Have a brilliant holiday. Do send us pics of your pets enjoying the Lake District for us to upload on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/RunningHareWindermere
