HOW THINGS WORK

There is a separate folder in the kitchen by the table with this same information as well as instructions and user guides for the appliances;  the smart TV guide is in the drawer in the TV unit. Everything is quite user friendly on its own too.

WiFi The WiFi is great! The router is near the TV unit. The broadband network name is written on a frame on the TV unit (as well as being on the router).

Radio/CD player is in the kitchen. You should be able to link your smart phone or i-pod via Bluetooth.

Smart TV and its facilities (70TV channels, 15HD channels, 25 radio stations). You can scroll through the TV guide to watch programmes missed over the last 7 days. There’s also Netflix and Amazon Prime. Unlike some other rental cottages, we have signed in on behalf of our guests so please don't log into your own account as it will stop the next guests from watching. If there is a charged service (eg a film download) you'd like, please liaise with Danielle to pay for its purchase.
You can link your laptop to the TV using the HDM1 cable (it's either plugged into the back of the TV or in the TV unit drawer).

Washing machine

Instructions are in the blue folder. There is a re-usable eco-egg that you can use instead of washing detergent or conditioner if you wish; you are also welcome to use your own detergent. A clothes horse is in the utility room. You might like to put it in the main bathroom. There is a washing line attached to the garage which clips onto the back of the house by the patio. There are poles if needed in the utility room cupboard, as well as pegs.

Dishwasher

Press On/Off button, press P+ to select your programme. Programme 6 works well without taking too long. Press Start button. Sorry, the wine glasses don’t fit in the dishwasher.

The Nest system

Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. These are provided on each floor (two on ground floor) through an interlinked system called Nest. If you burn your toast, this may set off the Nest system involving a lovely lady warning you that she has detected smoke. Please immediately reduce the smoke by opening windows. If need be, you may need to reset the system by pressing the button on the Nest detector on the ceiling. There’s a pole for your use in the utility room. No candles or smoking in the house please.
More detailed information about the Nest system.

Bins. As Running Hare is a holiday let business, rather than a residential home, the council do not collect the bins and we pay Cumbria Waste to empty them. They require the bin to be at the back of the house by the dirt road. Collection day is Thursday morning so please make sure it's accessible by pulling it out on Wednesday night. Everything goes in the same bin and is sorted by them for recycling.

Heating and hot water The heating has been set for your comfort. You can tweak it using the thermostat gadget on the kitchen worktop – please do not unplug it. There is a separate instruction sheet. Hot water is continuous through the combi boiler. It’s located in the hall cupboard on the top floor. Please do not change the settings.

Night lights These come on automatically via the ceiling Nest boxes when movement is detected, so you can pop to the loo or down the stairs without needing lights on in the night 😊

The Nest system is backed up with batteries so no worries about it working in the event of a power failure.

Electricity Supply

The circuit breaker electrical box is in cupboard on the right as you enter the kitchen from the utility room. The house was completely rewired during the 2018 refurbishment so everything should be in good order 😊 If it looks like a fuse has blown, look for a breaker that has moved from the “on” position to the “off” position, and move it to the “on” position to restore power to that circuit. It may be that an electrical item you have used has caused this. If you know what it is, please unplug and do not re-use. Otherwise, please don’t tinker with the electrics but contact the agency for assistance. There is a torch in this cupboard.

Have you noticed that many of the sockets also have USB sockets incorporated? If you’ve not seen this before, it means you can charge any electrical items (usually phone, Kindles etc) without the plug, and without fighting others for access to sockets 😉

Woodburning stove. Where to get supplies and how to use the woodburning stove.

Hair dryer is in the wardrobe in the middle room. If it's not there, a previous guest may have moved it to the top floor room.

Hose attachment on bath The main bathroom has an overhead shower and a hose attachment. There is a little lever behind the taps for switching between the hose and the bath taps. It appears to have been made and installed for people with long thin fingers, sorry.

Microwave Simply turn the dial for the number of minutes you want. If you’ve not used a microwave before, be aware most things only need a very short time to heat and no metal at all should ever be put in the microwave. Please leave the door open after use to let out steam.

Cleaning There are cleaning products in the utility room, bathroom and kitchen. Mop, broom and dustpan and brush are in the utility room. Henry the Hoover is in the cupboard under the stairs in the kitchen. Extra bags there too.

Ironing You’re on holiday so hopefully you can mainly ignore the iron 😊
The ironing board is in the cupboard under the stairs and the iron is in the utility room cupboard. Please don’t iron on the table.

Garden The switch for the outside light is on the left wall as you look out. Please make sure you turn it off after use. There’s a covered hut for smokers or anyone else who wants to sit covered outdoors. Cushions for the outside chairs are in the sitting room. Please replace indoors after use. There’s sun-loungers and a parasol for the table in the shed (padlocked with key on kitchen holder); please replace after use. There are herbs including sage, mint and chives in the garden for you to use. We are very grateful if you can water plants outdoors and indoors if it is very dry whilst you're staying; there's a watering can in the shed. Thank you!

Leaving. Thank you so much for staying at Running Hare. We hope you’ve had a brilliant time and would like to come again. Please make sure you have replaced all keys and put the front door key in the key lock.
